Healing Through Horses: Our Partnership with Basecamp for Veterans
At White Stallion Ranch, horses have always been at the heart of what we do. They bring people together, build confidence, and create lasting memories. Since 2018, they have also helped support a mission that extends beyond the guest experience through our partnership with Basecamp for Veterans (BCI).
Basecamp for Veterans, Inc. was founded in 2018 by Deborah Plum and Theo Windish with a mission to provide veterans and their families with opportunities for connection, growth, and healing through equine-assisted experiences and community support.
Since the organization’s founding, White Stallion Ranch has been proud to support BCI by providing a home for its programs. Over the years, the ranch has served as a gathering place where veterans can step away from the demands of everyday life, spend time with horses, and build meaningful connections with others who share similar experiences.
In many ways, White Stallion Ranch has become a true “basecamp” for the program. Surrounded by the beauty of the Sonoran Desert, participants are given the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and focus on personal growth in a safe and welcoming environment.
Many of the horses used during BCI programs come from the ranch itself. Horses have a remarkable ability to meet people exactly where they are. They respond honestly, without judgment, and often teach lessons in trust, communication, patience, and self-awareness. These lessons frequently extend far beyond the arena.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the program is the sense of community that develops throughout each class. What begins with horses often grows into lasting friendships, support networks, and renewed confidence. Veterans and their families are reminded that they do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone.
We are grateful to have been part of the journey since the very beginning and honored to continue supporting the important work BCI does. Providing a safe and healing environment for veterans and their families is something we take great pride in, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come.
